Join us for a philosophical exploration of life and the age old quest of “Know Thyself” with Dr. Christopher Phillips for an evening of renewed love, forbearance, and hope for this thing we call life.
After the passing of his beloved father and mentor, Christopher was left with the inescapable truth: that there are some things we cannot know for sure. A blend of memoir and philosophical thought, SOUL OF GOODNESS charts a pathway for sculpting what Shakespeare describes as a “soul of goodness” to overcome the hopelessness that comes from grievous loss, setbacks, or betrayal- all natural parts of everyday life. With his mentor and friend Dr. Cornell West joining him for the conversation, it will be an evening you won’t forget. If you regularly think about your impending mortality, what comes after this life, and how we try to move past the bad things we see in the world come and join us. You may not get sure fire answers, but you’ll definitely leave with enough to keep pondering about your own journey to “soul of goodness” .

The program will begin at 6:30 PM with an introduction from a member of our team. Christopher Phillips PhD, is founder of the global Socrates Café movement (www.SocratesCafe.com), dedicated to making ours a more understanding, connected and participatory world through rigorous, methodical yet accessible philosophical inquiry into questions as timely as they are timeless. Dr. Cornel West is a prominent and provocative democratic intellectual. He is the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Professor of Philosophy and Christian Practice at Union Theological Seminary and holds the title of Professor Emeritus at Princeton University. He has also taught at Union Theological Seminary, Yale, Harvard, and the University of Paris. Cornel West graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard in three years and obtained his M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy at Princeton.
