April is National Poetry Month, and here at Busboys and Poets Takoma, we are excited to welcome three incredible poets to share and discuss some of their work!

Sunu P. Chandy, Saida Agostini, and Casey Catherine Moore will be in conversation on the Busboys stage to discuss their poetry. Copies of their published works will be available for purchase during and after the event, and they will be signing following the program.

This event is free and open to all. Our program begins at 6:00 pm, and will be followed by an audience Q&A. Copies of their works will be available for purchase before and after the event. Please note that this event is IN PERSON and will NOT be livestreamed.

We ask that guests RSVP in order to receive direct updates about the event from Busboys and Poets Books.

Sunu P. Chandy (she/her) is a social justice activist including through her work as a poet and a civil rights attorney. She is a queer woman of color, the daughter of immigrants from Kerala, India, and lives in Washington, DC with her family. Sunu’s award-winning collection of poems, My Dear Comrades, was published by Regal House in 2023. Sunu completed her MFA in poetry at Queens College, City University of New York, in 2013. Sunu is also currently a Senior Advisor with Democracy Forward, supporting work across teams including fighting the many attacks on racial equity, diversity, and inclusion. Sunu also serves on the board of the Transgender Law Center. Sunu is delighted to celebrate the publication of My Dear Comrades with all of you and with the book's fabulous cover artist, Ragni Agarwal.

Saida Agostini is a queer Afro-Guyanese poet whose work explores how Black folks harness mythology to enter the fantastic. Her work is featured or forthcoming in the Academy of American Poets’ Poem a Day, Plume, Honey, Barrelhouse, amongst others. Saida’s work can be found in several anthologies, including The Future of Black, Plume Poetry 9, and Not Without Our Laughter: Poems of Humor, Sexuality and Joy. Her first full length collection let the dead in was released by Alan Squire Publishing (March 2022). A Cave Canem Graduate Fellow, Saida is a two-time Pushcart Prize Nominee and Best of the Net Finalist. She lives online at www.saidaagostini.com.

Casey Catherine Moore (she/her) is a bipolar, bisexual writer, writing coach, and educator. She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of South Carolina with a focus on Latin poetry, invective, and gender studies. Casey’s work centers gender, sexuality, and dis/ability and can be found in academic and creative publications, including The Comparatist, Sinister Wisdom, Oyster River Pages, Samfiftyfour, and The Closed Eye Open. Her poetry collection, Psyche, will be published in 2024 with Anxiety Press. She founded and hosts Electric Euphoria, a queer and neurodivergent open mic held at As You Are, and co-produces and co-hosts Homo Stanzas, a queer poetry and comedy series. She is also a Busboys & Poets open mic host at their Brookland location. Her performance credits include The Kennedy Center, Busboys & Poets, The Nail Salon, Capturing Fire, Poetry Out Loud, PRIDE Poems 2023, and the 2022 March for Medicare for All Rally in DC. Casey is a proud fifteen-year veteran educator now working as a writing coach and teaching artist with organizations including Georgetown.
