A.C.T.O.R (A Continuing Talk on Race) presents: We're All In! An Interactive Workshop on the Future of Race Talks in DC and Beyond!
Every month at A.C.T.O.R. (A Continuing Talk on Race), we have open and honest conversations about a diverse array of topics at the intersection of race, class and culture. Busboys is honored to provide this space to an engaged and thoughtful community eager to learn and be a part of social change here in DC and beyond! In order to sustain this series and our conversations, we invite you to join us for a "planning workshop" to discuss the future of dialogues on race, ideas for potential topics and other individual and collective resources that may contribute to the continuity and evolution of A.C.T.O.R. and similar conversations around the city.
At this workshop, we will discuss:
- Your personal experiences with A.C.T.O.R. and other spaces where you have been able to talk openly about your experiences with other people in your community (both friends and strangers)
- What should be the guiding principles of spaces and events of this kind?
- What resources can each of us contribute to
- How do we do outreach to ensure that there are diverse perspectives in these conversations?
- How do we cultivate greater empathy or emphasize the importance of having these conversations to the community at-large?
This month's interactive workshop and discussion will be facilitated by Nick Mann, Author, Organization Development Consultant and Faculty Instructor at the Federal Executive Institute.
The A.C.T.O.R. (A Continuing Talk on Race) open discussion series is hosted by Busboys and Poets as a community service. It provides the opportunity for people to come together and speak openly and honestly about issues of race. The intent is that each person walks away from the discussion feeling something: challenged, educated, uncomfortable, enlightened, refreshed, reassured and hopefully inspired and moved to action! Each month there is a new topic for discussion.
