Please join Busboys and Poets Books as we welcome writer and longtime activist Max Elbaum to discuss the new edition of his acclaimed book Revolution in the Air, a definitive study of how radicals from the sixties movements embraced twentieth-century Marxism, deconstructing the notion that sixties radicalism was a parochial movement for students and hippies. Now in the fifty-year anniversary of the landmark Protests of 1968, Max reflects on his decades of activism and invites a discussion of how we can learn from the movements of the past for the future of revolutionary struggle. Following his reading, Jessie Mannisto and Arrion Brown will join Max for discussion.
Max Elbaum was a member of Students for a Democratic Society and a leader of one of the main new communist movement organizations. His writings have appeared in the Nation, the US Guardian, CrossRoads, and the Encyclopedia of the American Left. He lives in Oakland.
Jessie Mannisto is an independent writer and member of the editorial board of Democratic Left the Magazine of Democratic Socialists of America
Arrion Brown is an activist in the American Postal Workers Union (organization listed for ID purposes only).
