This month, we're reading two YA books focusing on queer characters - Hell Followed With Us and Aces Wild. And as a very special treat, the authors will be joining us to discuss their books virtually!
On the surface, a post-apocalyptic horror book set in the distant future (Hell Followed With Us) has nothing in common with a book about a group infiltrating the Las Vegas criminal underground to pull off a heist (Aces Wild), but these books have some surprising similarities! They both focus on queer teenagers doing their best to proclaim their identities in worlds attempting to manipulate them and use them for their own benefits - both Benji, the hero of Hell Followed With Us and Jack, the hero of Aces Wild, rebel against adult authority figures and find refuge with other queer teenagers. To learn more about how these books are similar, please join us at Busboys and Poets Takoma on November 20 at 4pm!
Both titles are available at Busboys Takoma for 10% off!
Hell Followed With Us by by Andrew Joseph White
A furious debut novel from Andrew Joseph White about embracing the monster within and unleashing its power against your oppressors. Queer, trans author Andrew Joseph White is an up-and-coming voice in the YA community.
Aces Wild: A Heist by Amanda DeWitt

Jack Shannon—the son of a Las Vegas casino mogul—runs a secret blackjack ring. When his mom is arrested, Jack knows that something’s not right. He knows his mom was sold out by Peter Carlevaro: rival casino owner and jilted lover. Gross. With the help his closest friends—the asexual support group he met through fandom forums— Jack hatches a plan to find the truth. All he has to do is infiltrate a high-stakes gambling club and dodge dark family secrets, while hopelessly navigating what it means to be in love while asexual.
