Zarqa Nawaz is a Canadian writer, journalist, and filmmaker of Muslim faith. She was raised in the Toronto area and worked with CBC Radio as an associate producer of several CBC Radio programs including Morningside. She made a documentary in 2005 entitled ‘Me and the Mosque’ for the National Film Board of Canada about patriarchy in mosque culture. It inspired her to create the ground breaking sitcom ‘Little Mosque on the Prairie,’ the first television show portraying a Muslim community living in the west. It went on to be one of the highest rated sitcoms in CBC’s history. She has just written her comedic memoir ‘Laughing All the Way to the Mosque’ which Canadian Living Magazine, declared the Book of the Summer.
