About the Festival

In celebration of the city's 50th anniversary, the Downtown Columbia Partnership wanted to host an event that captured the community's character. Imagined as an extension of Columbia itself and its founder James Rouse's vision for a diverse, inclusive, and progressive city, Books in Bloom was born. Since its inception in 2017, the festival has hosted renowned authors, chefs, activists, poets, and more, with interactive programming around salient themes including race, feminism, equality, and culture. Books in Bloom has served as an enduring expression of Columbia's love of literature and venue for meaningful dialogue since its inaugural year, and will continue to do so for years to come.
