About the Host – Dwayne B (aka “The Crochet Kingpin”)
Dwayne B is a DC native and creative force—poet, activist, break-dancer, fashion designer, and host of the city’s longest-running open mic series, Spit Dat. As a member of the Busboys and Poets hosting team, he brings years of experience, emotion, and edge to every mic he touches.
From SAGAfest Iceland to Woolly Mammoth Theater, Dwayne’s words have traveled far. He’s the recipient of the Best Haiku Award at the 2011 National Underground Spoken-Word Poetry Awards, and his HIV awareness work through poetry has been featured by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, BBC America, Discovery Channel, and The Washington Post.
Whether crocheting on the Metro or commanding the mic, Dwayne’s goal is to make you feel—and on this 4th of July, he’ll do just that.
