Hamilton alumni, parents, and friends are invited to join a discussion on the impact of social media on the 2020 presidential race. Social media broke out as a force in presidential politics in 2004 when Howard Dean used social media to catapult himself from a largely unknown candidate to a viable contender. Most recently, in 2016, President Trump used earned media and social media to offset his fundraising disadvantage.
Our panel will speak to both the positive role social media is playing in this election cycle, and the "weaponization" of social media via fake news, alternative facts, bots, and foreign actors.
