Kathleen O’Toole’s This Far: a harvest of poems from one season in a poet’s life. A delve into the natural and aesthetic worlds for insight and consolation. Poems that interrogate inherited truths in the light of crises facing the earth and our human communities. The residue of stories and questions overheard that begged to be transcribed, or further amplified in the telling.

Praise for This Far

“… Nature and the ancestral past shape Kathleen O’Toole’s unique voice, sustaining a compelling image of the poem as a reliquary that holds the treasures that we cherish at a turning point in life, having come “this far.”

 - Kathleen Staudt, author of Good Places: Poems, and Waving Back: Poems of Mothering Life.

“Kathleen O’Toole’s visionary poems explore the boundaries between light and dark, past and present, life and death.”

 - Michael Simms, Vox Populi, founding editor, Autumn House Press

“ Here is that rare thing: a voice acutely attuned to the world of pain through which we pass daily—racial inequality, world hunger, the bloated rich, and makes us feel those injustices as well. Her poems are a treasure trove, waiting to feed us with delight, and, even more, to change us. “

 - Paul Mariani, poet, biographer and memoirist, author, most recently of: Epitaphs for the Journey (Poems) and The Mystery of It All: The Vocation of Poetry in the Twilight of Modernism (Paraclete Press).
