AT THE DC CONVENTION CENTER join Busboys and Poets Saturday at The CBCF Annual Legislative Conference for any of the following scheduled events. Located at the DC Convention Center. Free and open to all!

Be a part of the leading policy conference on issues impacting African Americans and the global black community. The CBCF Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) is where thought leaders, legislators and concerned citizens engage on economic development, civil and social justice, public health and education issues. More than 10,000 people attend 100 public policy forums and much more.

9 AM Read & Play with District MotherHued Join District MotherHued for special readings of our specially curated Busboys and Poets Reading List, followed by fun activities

10 AM RISE & RHYME w Culture Queen: Culture Queen creates empowering entertainment for your royal children using original and interactive music, movement and storytelling to teach them to celebrate their history and love themselves. With a spoonful of magic and ancient wisdom, the queen’s soulful alto voice dances across a fusion of festive calypso, afrobeat, jazz and hip-hop rhythms that celebrate the Kings and Queens of African-American History. Culture Queen will wow children and families with her magnetic personality and engaging approach to cultural literacy by renewing their sense of confidence and body positivity while encouraging everyone to proudly proclaim “I Like The Me I See!”

11 AM Author Aisha Rice reads (My Kinky Coily Hair) Busboys and Poets Books welcomes AishaNaomi is an African-American girl struggling with accepting her natural hair texture. She wishes should could have hair like her friends, long and blonde or big brown curls. Can a trip to her Grandma’s help her to take pride in her kinky, coily hair?
