Description:

CALL TO ACTION

Attend this community meeting in preparation for the launch of DC-MUSIC (Movement Uplifting Safe Independent Communities) with THE PEOPLE, Partners from the DMV Community, Faith Based Leaders and Music Industry.

We are organizing to produce an agenda, platform and strategies to address the attack on our Music, Culture and Future in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area.

The organization, DC Music has been organizing many citizens who are outraged and frustrated with the attacks on our Music, Culture and means of obtaining workforce housing, employment and business opportunities. After meeting with native Washingtonians we have a clear understanding that citizens agree - there is a lack of concern or initiative to insure that they enjoy and remain a part of transitioning communities. Many say things are better, yet, the only thing that had gotten better is the divide and disparities. Issues that are facing our community include:

  •  38% graduation rate of black boys in DC
  •  60% of our youth 18-24 are unemployed.
  •  Blacks are locked up 8-1 for petty drug crimes that others races use equally --the disparity is obvious.

In PG County they say crime is down but they leave out data that shows that?s not the whole story.

Councilwoman Karen Toles ties the decrease in homicides to eliminating our music and culture in a manner that violates citizens rights, imposing Jim Crow tactics and stereotyping an entire industry based on the behavior of a few bad apples in the past.

This behavior towards long-term DMV citizens must be stopped. Washington D.C. is changing; yet not nearly enough debate, dialogue or straight talk has occurred on whether the changes are done in an ethical manner with good intention for our constituents. Change is great but not if it does not include the people. The people must be empowered not castrated and pushed out by heartless, self serving leadership.

We are taking personal responsibility and addressing those who don?t have us in their best interest. That must change and people with their backs against the wall are coming together to make CHANGE a reality. We will not be fooled on April Fools Day or any place where our input and voice matters in the DMV.

Free and open to all. Hosted by: DC MUSIC
