Why so serious?! If you are like us, you have found it hard to find things to laugh about. Working to change the world is grueling and daunting work, but the pursuit of happiness is what we are fighting for! So we are making time to LAUGH! Busboys and Poets is pleased to introduce COMEDY NIGHT in Takoma
Come out to Shirlington and get your ribs tickled, massage your funny bone, slap a knee or two. Because LAUGHTER is an act of resistance!
A comedian, improviser and lyricist, Allan is a jack of all trades. Allan's humor is dry, and a little wet from perspiration, usually. He pokes fun at Jews, mostly his Mom & Grandma, and dissects cultural taboos like online dating while balding or being a great +1 for a funeral. Often serious with hints of silly, Allan manages to keep dark topics light-hearted and his audiences on their toes (so bring comfortable shoes). His comedy has been described as, "great for first dates."
He's opened (the door for) Sinbad, and toured throughout Eastern Europe in the summer of 2011 (not for comedy, just a fun fact). He did however recently headline the Church of Satire comedy club. In addition to running comedy shows at Busboys & Poets in Takoma, Shirlington, and 14th & V, he manages the Tysons Comedy Cellar and shows under his production company Sidley Standup. Follow @SidleyStandup on IG & Twitter to stay up to date with shows and content.
Comedians:
Reid Clark - MC:
Reid Clark is the black Hippy you love to hate. Don't hate for long though because this guy is here to share the laughs from Netflix, Amazon Prime and the Capital Fringe Festival.
Andie Basto is a proud first-generation queer latina woman and stand-up comedian. As bilingual as she is bisexual, her unique perspective has delighted audiences up and down the East Coast. She was recently featured in Washington Post Magazine, and performed at Mad Ethnic Comedy Festival in Philadelphia. Once a month, she co-produces Jokes That Give Back, an intersectional comedy show for charity at the Drafthouse Comedy Theater in Washington D.C. You can follow her cat's antics on Instagram (@ndie_b) or read her subtweets on twitter (@ndieIsOnline).
Matt is a Washington, DC-based comedian. He's performed comedy at clubs and festivals across the country and once wrote a song about the NSA surveillance program that Glenn Greenwald called "quite pretty." Matt currently produces shows across DC with Capital Laughs and is the co-founder of Grassroots Comedy DC.
Anna Phillips:
The self-proclaimed Susan Boyle of comedy, audiences describe Anna Phillips as endearing, genuine and hilarious. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Anna Phillips began doing stand up comedy in Syracuse, NY. While living in New York, she regularly produced successful comedy events, including a monthly show at Syracuse and Hartford Funny Bone. Anna has appeared in festivals including Finger Lakes Comedy Festival, The Laughing Devil Cup, and Chicago Women’s Funny Festival. She shares her observations & stories in a deadpan manner. Anna talks about race, family, work, and weight issues in a way anyone can enjoy.
Von Mychael:
Von Mychael's been ripping up the stage from Newport to Baltimore for years. Opening for DC Legend Tony Woods and other greats like Deion Cole. He's got a laid back style but a sharp eye and keen mind. He's also one of the hardest working guys on the local scene. We love this dude and feel lucky to have him on our stage.
