A Busboys and Poetry Event hosted this week by Jonathan B. Tucker

Born in Washington, DC and raised in Crofton, Maryland, Jonathan B. Tucker (JBT) is a poet, organizer, educator, DJ, photographer, and dreamer passionate about poetry, youth empowerment, racial and social justice, and finding purpose through service to others. He has received numerous awards and artist fellowships, and has performed and taught at schools, libraries, detention centers, museums, and conferences around the world. His poems have appeared in Howard University’s Amistad Journal alongside the late Amiri Baraka (Howard University, 2011), in Etan Thomas’s anthology Voices of the Future (Haymarket Books, 2012), and on the stages of the Kennedy Center and the South African State Theatre. JBT represented DC at the National Poetry Slam in 2009 and 2010, and coordinated and co-coached the DC Youth Slam Team with nonprofit org Split This Rock Producing and hosting poetry programs for over a decade, JBT now runs an international arts exchange program between DC and South Africa.

FEATURING: PURIFY LOVE

Purify Love, (Formerly known as Favor), is a Minister of LOVE & Truth. She is the CEO & Founder of (The Purify Love Movement) currently with 30,000 plus Followers. The Purify Love Movement is a Concept that she created several years ago to focus on using her Ministry of LOVE & TRUTH to be able to bring together people of ALL Ethnicities, Colors, Creeds, Genders, Backgrounds, Religions, & Sexual Orientations. She believes that LOVE & TRUTH are the only POWERS that will create lasting, positive change in ANY Society, Nation, and in the World abroad. She is a Love Minister, Mentor, Resiliency Counselor, Coach, & Expert. She is also an Activist, Speaker, Published Author, Poet, ASCAP Licensed Singer-Songwriter, & Radio Show Host. Most importantly, she is a lover of all people, and a follower of YAHWEH. A Native Washingtonian, she began writing at the age of fourteen. Her First poem was entitled “Young Black Woman.” Since then Purify has written over 500 songs, raps, & poems, and has performed at more than 100 venues, including the World Famous "Apollo Theater". Purify was Featured on Channel 9 NEWS WUSA with Derrek McGinty for her life story, which also Garnered Attention from Activist/Radio Show Host Michael Baisden, Grammy Nominated R&B Singer Raheem Devaughn, & Grammy Award Winning R&B Singer MYA. She is the Executive Director, Producer, & Radio Show Host of "Purify Love Universal", which focuses on Real Life Circumstances & Advice for walking your own personal path & journey. Purify is the Co-Author/Feature Poet in “100 Customer Appreciation Tips for Stylist, Barbers, & Salon Owners”(2009)(c)(Vineyard Publishing). She also gave Poetry & Commentary Contributions in "A Gathering of Words Commentary for Trayvon Martin"(2012)(c)(Innerchild Press) & "I want My Poetry To...A collection of the many voices inspired by Monte Smith"(2012)(c)(Innerchild Press). She has been known to move her Crowds & Audiences towards change, growth, self-acceptance, and pursuing their passion. Her motto is "Love is the key, LOVE is the only way."

For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.

$5 Cover. No refunds. Ticket purchase limit of 4 per person. Guests must have their wristbands (tickets) on upon entering the event.

Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. No saved or reserved seats are allowed. Failure to check in within 30 minutes of advertised start time may result in a forfeiture of seats.
