Description:

A Busboys and Poets event hosted this week by Morgan Butler

Morgan “Momo da Mermaid” Butler is a witchy writer, educator, and interdisciplinary atist from Washington, D.C. Her work primarily focuses on cultivating healing spaces for femmes of color in white/masc/het-dominated spaces, specifically through creative writing and radical healing. A 2018 Loft Literary Center Spoken Word Immersion Fellow, she has performed for TedxFoggyBottom, TV One’s Verses and Flow and has been welcomed into spaces at The White House, The Kennedy Center and the National Museum of African-American History and Culture. As an educator, she has led two workshops at Harvard University’s Alumni of Color Conference and has taught sessions on peace education and creative writing throughout the D.C, Maryland, Virginia area. Momo identifies as a queer, genderfluid femme, with she/they pronouns.

FEATURING: FATIMA CAMARA

Fatima Camara is a writer and spoken word artist from Minneapolis, MN. She is a Be Heard Alumna who has performed all over the metro area. Her work has been featured in the TruArtSpeaks Dig Deep Anthology, MN Artist site, and more. The passion she holds for writing comes from her desire to highlight the stories of young first-generation Black people, so future first generations have narratives they can reference and relate to. It is this passion that has allowed her to share stages with Ladan Osman, Danez Smith, Hieu Minh Nguyen, and more. A Brave New Voices Alumna, Fatima is now a Future Corps Fellow for Youth Speaks. She currently serves as the Programs Associate for TruArtSpeaks and is the official host of the ReVerb Open Mic in the historic Rondo Neighborhood. Her first chapbook, YellowLine, will be published in Spring 2020 by Akashic Books and APBF (African Poetry Book Fund).
