A Busboys and Poets event hosted this week by Mariah Barber

Mariah Barber is Carolina girl from the 704 and current Peace Corps volunteer between countries. She is a self-proclaimed "bag lady" and "nomad" who is claiming DC as home for a while until she returns to Latin America. She is an activist, spoken word poet , author, researcher and sexual health educator. She is a former radio show personality with WZMB “Good Vibrations Radio” and current podcaster on “Poetically Correct” and “Attempting to find da Answers”. Barber is the founder of Beyond Your Organization LLC a company dedicated to exploring identity through workshops involving spoken word poetry and uplifting unheard voices. Her book “Of Mics & Pens & Gods & Other College Courses” covers her unique brand of womanhood through haiku's ,long poems and more. Riah lives for the Spanish language, hiking ,QPOC, anthropology, Indian food, liberation , Earl Grey tea, thrifting , records, HIV prevention , yoga and open mic nights. She has her master’s in social behavioral & Community Health and has focused her efforts on bettering the health outcomes for women of color through storytelling with words or research.

FEATURING: Kim B. Miller

Kim B. Miller is a native New Yorker, born in Brooklyn. She is an author,facilitator, parent advocate and a spoken word artist. She's passionate about helping moms and dads parent together, even if they are in pain themselves. She's been featured on WLIB, KD Bowe Morning Show with Denise Hill, giving advice and guidance to callers with questions on parenting. Her first book is called How to Love Your kids More Than You Hate That Man. She was part of an author's panel at Hueman Bookstore in Harlem, NY. She currently facilitates workshops for authors and artists.

This spoken word artist loves writing and spittin. She wants you to feel her heart in each piece. Her poetry is her heart expressed in words: opinionated, thought provoking and real.

She has been the featured poet in several venues, churches and programs in, VA, MD, DC and NY. Her new spoken word book is titled: Poetically Inking: Just Me, MY Pen and the Mic.

For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.

$5 Cover. No refunds. Ticket purchase limit of 4 per person. Guests must have their wristbands (tickets) on upon entering the event.

Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. No saved or reserved seats are allowed. Failure to check in within 30 minutes of advertised start time may result in a forfeiture of seats.
