Why so serious?! If you are like us, you have found it hard to find things to laugh about. Working to change the world is grueling and daunting work, but the pursuit of happiness is what we are fighting for! So we are making time to LAUGH! Busboys and Poets is pleased to present COMEDY NIGHT in TakomaÂ
Come out and get your ribs tickled, massage your funny bone, slap a knee or two. Because LAUGHTER is an act of resistance!
Produced by Allan Sidley:
A comedian, improviser and lyricist, Allan is a jack off all trades. Allan's humor is dry, and a little wet from perspiration, usually. He pokes fun at Jews, mostly his Mom & Grandma, and dissects cultural taboos like online dating while balding or enjoying the occasional funeral. Often serious with a hint of silly, Allan manages to keep dark topics light-hearted and his audiences on their toes. His comedy has been described as, "great for first dates."
He's opened (the door for) Sinbad, and toured throughout Eastern Europe in the summer of 2011 (not for comedy, just a fun fact). He did however recently feature at the DC Drafthouse, and was a member of the Unkosher Comedy Tour. In addition to running comedy shows at Busboys & Poets in Takoma, Shirlington, and 14th & V, he manages the Tysons Comedy Cellar and shows under his production company Sidley Standup.
About the Comedians:
Haywood Turnipseed Jr: Haywood is the founder of Attack of the Comics and has over a decade of experience in making people laugh all over the country. He has performed at the Kennedy Center; The DC Improv; Brightest Young Things 'Bentzen Ball' Curated by Tig Nataro; the Underground Comedy Festival; & the Baltimore Comedy Festival. Haywood has even toured internationally, opening for greats like Tony Woods; Sarah Colonna; Baron Vaughn; Wyatt Cenac; Hannibal Buress; and Dana Gould. In his spare time he volunteers as a football, and basketball coach at Ft Stanton Rec Center; plays the saxophone; and plays a mean game of pinball.
Blaire Postman:Â Blaire Postman is a high energy, down-the-rabbit-hole stand-up comedian with no chill. Her unexpected material includes tales of living with recovering alcoholics and the history of Super Bowl half time shows. She has been an officially selected performer at the San Francisco Sketchfest, Limestone Comedy Festival, Asheville Comedy Festival, and featured for amazing headliners including Arsenio Hall, Erin Foley, Asif Ali among many others.
Reid Clark:Â Reid Clark is the black Hippy you love to hate. Don't hate for long tho because this guy is here to share the laughs from Netflix, Amazon Prime and the Capital Fringe Festival
Pat Paulson:Â Hailing from the mean streets of small-town Ohio, Pat Paulson brings his unique perspective to bear on topics such as fatherhood, aging, and why it's not his fault that his dog is a racist. He's performed up and down the East coast and throughout the Midwest, entertaining audiences with tales of teaching English in China, dealing with his Irish Catholic relatives, and learning that honesty is not always the best policy in marriage.
Kamron Ghods: Never has someone been so honest about living so dishonestly. A DC comedian, he quickly earned a name for himself by exploiting his Persian father and sending hecklers to their graves. Disturbingly self-serving and pragmatic, come catch a glimpse through the eyes of a true “Millennial Machiavelliâ€.
Elizabeth Norman: Native to Baltimore, Elizabeth Norman is a comedian, educator and very polite young lady. When she isn’t explaining mummies to children or teaching art classes, she entertains audiences all over Maryland and DC (and sometimes even Pennsylvania and Virginia!) either alone as a stand-up or with her sketch comedy group, Nightmares on ELM Street. As quick-witted as she is silly, Elizabeth is a delightful mix of proper, playful and absurd, with just a hint of an edge. She’s all the fun of your favorite redhead female cartoon protagonist, with a little extra depth!
