Make Music DC is part of the global Make Music Day celebration, held annually on June 21, bringing communities together through free live music performances in public spaces, neighborhoods, and cultural venues throughout Washington, DC. The event celebrates creativity, connection, and the power of music to bring people together.
Louisiana-grown artist kyavs is a healer, singer-songwriter, and performer whose music blends the soulful sounds of neo-soul and R&B with themes of restoration, resilience, and self-discovery. A school social worker in Washington, DC, kyavs brings a deep commitment to healing and wellness into their music, creating songs that encourage reflection, empowerment, and emotional freedom.
After touring domestically and internationally with the Howard Gospel Choir while in graduate school, kyavs began performing original music from their debut EP, midweek, a project that chronicles a journey of healing and reclaiming one’s sense of self. Drawing from their work as a social worker and trauma-informed therapist, kyavs centers Black empowerment, liberation, and emotional wellness, offering audiences an experience that is both uplifting and transformative.
Join us at Busboys and Poets for this special Make Music DC performance. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome.
