Description:

For decades, Kurds across the Middle East have struggled for their political and cultural rights. Their struggle continues today, calling for new voices, new allies, and new forms of witness.

This spring, DC-based Kurdish activist Kani Xulam, director of the American Kurdish Information Network (AKIN), completed a two-month pilgrimage walk from the MLK Memorial in Washington, DC, to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthplace in Atlanta, Georgia.

Please join us for a panel discussion on the challenges facing Kurds today—and hear Kani reflect on his 746 mile walk for love, justice, and Kurdish rights.

The panel will also feature Lacy MacAuley, who has visited the Rojava autonomous zone in Syria; Art Laffin of the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker; and other speakers.

Speakers:

Kani Xulam, American Kurdish Information Network (AKIN)

Lacy MacAuley, writer and analyst on the Rojava autonomous zone in Syria

Art Laffin, Dorothy Day Catholic Worker

Andy Shallal, welcome remarks
