Join us for a powerful afternoon exploring the life, literary brilliance, and enduring legacy of Paul Laurence Dunbar. This special documentary screening of Beyond the Mask highlights Dunbar’s profound impact on American literature and his deep connection to Washington, DC.
The program will also spotlight the historic Black neighborhoods of Bates, Hanover, Old City II, and Shaw—communities that helped shape the cultural and intellectual foundation of Black Washington.
Featuring remarks from local historians, educators, and special guests, this gathering invites the community to reflect on history, celebrate legacy, and honor the voices that continue to inspire generations.
