"Oh, we've got a live one here! HAHAHA!" - Jack Nicholson as The Joker, Batman (1989)
Drew Anderson, known lovingly as "Droopy the Broke Baller" and "The Black Weird Al Yankovic", has been hosting at the flagship Busboys and Poets 14th & V nearly since its inception, proudly serving as Venue Captain. He brings his signature comedic style to the stage when hosting there on 3rd Tuesdays, converting casual attendees into regulars with his wild parodies and improvisational riffs on everything going on inside and outside of the room. Droopy is also a repeat Arts & Humanities Fellow with the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities, founder and co-host of the award-winning Spit Dat (the District's longest-running open mic), and creator of the innovative teaching arts residencies Spoof School and C.R.U.N.K. Academy.
FEATURING: ZULYNETTE MORALES
A Chicago native who was raised in Hartford, CT., Zulynette is an alchemist. As a creative change agent, she uses art and poetry as social work tools to inspire others to heal and empower themselves. Her work communicates a narrative rooted in realness allowing viewers and listeners to conceptualize their own narrative and connect in a genuine, raw, and powerful way. After ten years in the non-profit world, Zulynette made the bold leap to work as a full-time artist and poet. She combines her academic (Master’s in Social Work, University of Connecticut) and research background (Participatory Action Research) with her creativity to create one-of-a-kind shows, workshops, and speeches to share with the world. Whether performing, speaking to groups, facilitating workshops, or creating in front of audiences, Zulynette seamlessly delves into topics from poverty to feminism, self-esteem to Latinx identity, privilege to LGBTQ identity, family issues to politics. Passionate, grounded and powerful, she engages a variety of audiences and has a longstanding history of working with groups of all backgrounds and ages. The first champion of the Hartford Iron Poets Annual Competition held at the International Hip Hop Festival at Trinity College, she has made a name for herself in the poetry circuit. Zulynette has worked in a wide-range of spaces including schools, libraries, colleges, non-profit organizations, organizational retreats, and after-school programs. Her aim is to spark minds, hearts, and conversations, encourage healing
and a reclamation of power.
