What does a poem sound like when it breathes?
When it moves with intention?
When the silence between lines speaks just as loudly as the words themselves?
As we celebrate 20 years of Busboys and Poets as a home for radical truth, revolutionary art, and poetic power—we invite you to a transformative workshop that meets you right where the page ends and the mic begins.
Led by the magnetic Sir Harvey Fitz, this high-energy, hands-on session is for those ready to elevate their writing and their stage presence. Learn how to fuse vulnerability with voice, clarity with cadence, and authenticity with impact.
And the best part?
Your $5 ticket includes entry to the legendary Open Mic Night immediately following the workshop. Stay, grab a drink or a bite, and if you're feeling brave—step up to the mic and share what you created.
Harvey Fitz is a curator of cultural awesomeness from Alexandria, Virginia and a graduate of Virginia State University with a BA in Mass Communications: Radio & Television Production. Based in the Washington Metropolitan Area, he is a multifaceted creative: freelance photographer, theatrically trained actor, producer, author, and spoken word artist—just to name a few.
In 2017, he launched Poetic Vibes Open Mic, a safe space for artists that became the subject of a 2018 Georgetown University documentary, winning the Beek Center Social Impact & Innovation Award. In 2020, he created the Black to The Future Festival, uniting over 100 Black-owned businesses, artists, and authors in historic Anacostia with 1,000+ attendees.
Harvey is also the author of the acclaimed poetry collection To Haiku’m It May Concern, winner of the DMV Renaissance Award for Best Author, and he holds the title King of Haiku from the first-ever Haiku Verzuz Championship. In 2023, he claimed victory at ArtToGoGo’s Spoken Word To GoGo Championship, hosted by the Anacostia BID.
His passion for the arts has opened doors and created impact far beyond his wildest dreams—and trust, the best of Harvey Fitz is still yet to come.
