Description:

Busboys and Poets turns 20 this year, and we want you to help us celebrate!

We’ll be hosting our first ever Boozy Book Fair on September 12th, 2025 at Busboys and Poets Takoma! We’ll have a special curated selection of books and gifts for the book connoisseurs, the home librarians, and the folks who remember the thrill of getting newsprint catalogs with everything you could order at the incoming book fair. You’ll also have chances to win prizes with each purchase!

Doors open at 6 PM, with sales happening in the Nicolas Guillen Room until 9 PM. While we love our younger book worms, book fair attendees must be 21 years old or over. Tickets are available on Eventbrite until the event ends at 9 PM.

This is a ticketed event, with a ticket required for each attendee. Tickets on Eventbrite cost $15/person, with each ticket including book fair entry, one drink ticket, and one reusable bag to take home. Tickets will be available on Eventbrite through the end of the program, but we highly recommend purchasing your ticket ahead of time!

We hope you join us for a magical birthday celebration brimming with books, booze, and bliss!

Guests must RSVP in order to receive direct updates about the event from Busboys and Poets Books

Busboys and Poets is a restaurant, bar, bookstore and community gathering place. First established in 2005, Busboys and Poets was founded by owner Andy Shallal (@andyshallal), an artist, activist, and restaurateur. After opening the flagship location at 14th and V Streets, NW DC, the neighboring residents and progressive community embraced Busboys and Poets, particularly activists opposed to the Iraq War. Busboys and Poets is now located in eight distinctive neighborhoods in the Washington D.C Metropolitan area. Busboys and Poets is a cultural hub for artists, activists, writers, thinkers, and dreamers.

We have a deep commitment to showcasing books and authors—on a local and national level—who have contributed to conversations concerning great social struggles. Prominently featuring the black struggle for civil rights, this also extends to issues of women’s and LGBTQ+ liberation, and more generally to the experiences of all the dispossessed and marginalized in this country. Our programs are a cultural hub for artists, writers, activists, thinkers, and dreamers, and we want everyone to leave feeling refreshed and full of love! We welcome all authors, including those who are just getting their feet wet here at Busboys and Poets.
