Join Busboys and Poets Books as we welcome former PBS education correspondent John Merrow to speak about his new book ADDICTED TO REFORM: A 12-Step Program to Rescue Public Education in which he argues that current school reform efforts focus too heavily on symptoms rather than on the root cause of our problems: an antiquated approach to schooling using outdated standards like graduation rates and testing.Â
Merrow proposes a learner-centered system instead, drawing on his four-decade-long reporting career at NPR and PBS and his experience both as a high school teacher and college professor.Â
Lily Eskelsen Garcia, President of the National Education Association, will introduce John Merrow and moderate the Q&A following his talk.Â
This event will be filmed by C-SPAN.Â
