Description:

The DC Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi) invites you to attend the 2nd Annual Fundraising Brunch on Saturday, March 18th, 2017 from 9-11am at Busboys and Poets in Takoma (235 Carroll Street NW, Washington, DC 20012). ABPsi has a proud history of scholarship and service to the mental health profession and social advocacy; we hope to help continue this legacy through fundraising. This fundraising event includes a delicious brunch, door prizes, extravagant raffles, networking activities, entertainment, and guest speakers.

DC ABPsi would like to provide financial support to DC Metro area graduating high school seniors, college students, and graduate students. With less than 5% of doctoral level psychologists being Black, our entire community would benefit from more mental health professionals that can address our community needs. We would be proud to be able to provide financial assistance to bright and deserving young scholars entering the field of Psychology and to build upon the legacy of the great Dr. Frances Cress Welsing (March 18, 1935- January 2, 2016). Dr. Welsing was a Black Psychiatrist that dedicated her life towards fighting Racism White Supremacy. Her 1970 essay, The Cress Theory of Color-Confrontation and Racism, offered her interpretation on the origins of what she described as the system of white supremacy. She was the author of The Isis Papers: The Keys to the Colors (1991) and this book profoundly shaped the field of Black Psychology.

We are honored to have Tony Browder as our keynote speaker at this brunch. He is an author, publisher, cultural historian, artist, and an educational consultant. He has lectured extensively throughout the United States, Africa, Caribbean, Mexico, Japan and Europe, on issues related to African and African American History and Culture. Mr. Browder is the founder and director of IKG Cultural Resources and has devoted 30 years researching ancient Egyptian history, science, philosophy and culture. He has traveled to Egypt 47 times since 1980 and is currently director of the ASA Restoration Project, which is funding the excavation and restoration of the 25th dynasty tomb of Karakhamun in Luxor, Egypt. He was also a dear friend of Dr. Welsing. Emmy nominated singer, songwriter, and producer Maimouna Youssef will provide a musical performance.
