In MASS SUPERVISION: Probation, Parole, and the Illusion of Safety and Freedom, Vincent Schiraldi combines first-hand experience with deep research on the inadequately explored practices of probation and parole, to illustrate how these forms of state supervision have strayed from their original goal of providing constructive and rehabilitative alternatives to prison. They have become instead, Schiraldi argues, a “recidivism trap” for people trying to lead productive lives in the wake of a criminal conviction.
Vincent is joining us on the Busboys stage to spotlight the inequities, inefficiencies, indignities, and inhumanities of the probation and parole system, making a compelling case for vast reform or abolition and providing a clear and hopeful roadmap for achieving these. Copies of the book will be available for purchase during and after the event, and the author will be signing following the program.
This event is free and open to all. Our program begins at 6:00 pm, and will be followed by an audience Q&A. Copies of MASS SUPERVISION will be available for purchase before and after the event. Please note that this event is IN PERSON and will NOT be livestreamed.
We ask that guests RSVP in order to receive direct updates about the event from Busboys and Poets Books
