Social Art and Culture
At Social Art and Culture, we believe Creativity is an economy. Founded in 2009 as a 5013c, we proudly reside in Southeast Washington, DC's Historic Anacostia Arts and Culture District. Using the power of the arts to educate and advance marginalized and underserved communities, we strive to lead the new narrative around how we invest in the creative economy—a new economically sustainable framework that invests in artisans and its culture. This framework continues to build our aperture for socially responsible artisans, where we collaboratively showcase their works' impact through exhibition, media arts, and curated experiences.
2023 CREATIVE ENTREPRENEUR CAPITAL SUMMIT
Friday, April 28, 2023 | 9:30 am - 4:00 pm
Busboys and Poets 450 K Street, NW Washington, DC 20005 | Angela Davis Room
The 2023 Summit will resume with 75 creative entrepreneurs from DC, MD, and VA learning how to combine their visions for creating change through meaningful societal impact using venture capital concepts. Our 2023 collaborating partner is We Act Radio and equity partners, Arts Administrators of Color, and Creative Mornings [DC Chapter]. CECS's vision is to continue building and offering resources for creative entrepreneurs to finance their goals for short- and long-term projects - both driving economic development, training, and opportunity. Doing great things to create a better world with entrepreneurship and finance should not be mutually exclusive. However, as these ideas are part of an emerging economic concept (though one could argue these concepts have existed in some form or fashion for quite some time), especially in the areas of urban revitalization, financial and consulting support from volunteers, nonprofits, and government agencies will be critical to the success of the process. CECSs’ impact deliverable is to build an environment for exploration, development, and thoughtful financial sustainability of the creative economy.
