Description:

Politics & Prose at Busboys and Poets 5th & K welcomes Chuck Collins to present their new book "Born on Third Base: A One Percenter Makes the Case for Tackling Inequality, Bringing Wealth Home, Committing to the Common Good."

An heir of the meatpacker Oscar Mayer, Collins was born into the one percent. He donated his wealth when he was in his twenties and took up the fight against inequality. An activist ever since, Collins has spoken out in numerous journals and in books including 99 to 1 and, with Bill Gates, Wealth and Our Commonwealth. Currently co-editor of Inequality.org for the Institute for Policy Studies, Collins is an example of how the rich can be part of the solution, not part of the problem, and his latest book discusses the work of initiatives like United for a Fair Economy that help bridge both sides of the income divide, channeling the energy to change and community building.
