Description:

The High School 48 Hour Film Project, is an opportunity for students to merge the arts using technology and old fashioned storytelling. It will also offer a unique and authentic experience that engages students and helps them develop skills that can be transferred into the workplace and earning students a digital badge through our partnership with District of Learning. District of Learning (DofL) is an ecosystem for anytime-anywhere learning and skills development in D.C. that bridges learning across school, home, community, and online environments.

It all begins on May 14th , 2016, with a rich training day in which interested teams can learn team-building and story-telling skills like storyboarding, plotting, and character development. They will also get a training in the basic technical aspects of filmmaking like camera use, audio recording and editing.

On the Friday, May 20, 2016 The High School 48 Hour Film Project kick off party will happen and each team will draw a genre from a hat. They will also be given a character, prop and line that they must include in their films. Then the fun begins. Teams will have that weekend (48hours) to write, record and edit their films – start to finish – before submitting their final product at our special drop-off event Sunday night.

Two weeks later on June 4, 2016 teams will gather for a screening of all their films at the historic Lincoln Theater to which they can invite friends and family. Each screening will include a quick Q&A session with the filmmakers and the audience. And a winner from all the films will be selected by our judges.

Finally, each team will also be given a slate of suggested debrief questions that it can take back to its school or program and use in a group reflection on the overall experience – as it plans on what great film to make next!

---

Started in Washington, DC in 2001, the 48 Hour Film Project is an international filmmaking competition that challenges filmmakers to make a movie in only a weekend. To date, more than 400,000 people around the world have participated in the 48HFP. 48 Hour films have screened at festivals around the world including our own Filmapalooza, SXSW and the Cannes Film Festival.
