Description:

Politics & Prose at Busboys and Poets 14th & V will welcome Kwame Alexander to discuss his newest novel BOOKED.  In this novel in verse, middle schooler Nick seems to have it all going for him. He and his best friend, Coby, are talented soccer players; a beautiful girl seems to like him back; and his linguistics professor father has seen to it that Nick has an incredible vocabulary. It’s amazing, though, how quickly things can start to unravel. Bullies target him and Coby, his mom makes a devastating announcement, and an emergency trip to the hospital keeps him out of an important soccer tournament. How will Nick bounce back from all these challenges? Strangely enough, the answer may lie partially in the books that he’s always avoided. Ages 11 – 15
