Politics & Prose at Busboys and Poets Takoma welcomes Tracy Chiles McGhee to discuss her new novel "Melting the Blues."
A writer and activist, McGhee is co-founder of the Literacy Empowerment Action Project, which works to provide innovative literacy, school improvement, and youth development programming to expand educational opportunities and strengthen developing communities; she has contributed poetry, fiction, and essays to several anthologies and journals including BOMB and Tidal Basin Review. Her latest novel is set in 1957 Arkansas. The story follows an aspiring musician caught between a yearning to leave his small town and deep connections to the community, an ambivalence that leads him to truly understand the blues.
McGhee will be in conversation with Marita Golden, novelist, memoirist, and co-founder of the Hurston/Wright Foundation.
