Description:

LIFE I SWEAR: INTIMATE STORIES FROM BLACK WOMEN ON IDENTITY, HEALING, AND SELF-TRUST is a modern and intimate reflection on self-love and healing for Black women, specifically written by Black women for other Black women. With contributors including Gabrielle Williams, Alex Elle, Josefine H. Sanders, Morgan Ashley, and more, this collection of essays is complete with over 100 full color photographs interspersed throughout the book. This gorgeous coffee table book goes beyond beauty and aesthetics to bring home a beacon of light and hope for the Black women in your life. What began as a podcast titled Life, I Swear transformed into a beautiful work of art that explores mental health, identity, and what it means to be resilient in today’s world. Join us for an evening with the author herself, Chloe Dulce Louvouezo, and local author Christine Platt. This event is free and open to all, and accessible through our Facebook and Youtube pages (@busboysandpoets).

Please RSVP if you are joining us in person or are interested in purchasing a signed book with shipping (limited to those tuning in via livestream)

Doors open to the Langston Hughes room at Busboys and Poets 14th & V at 5:45 PM on November 14th. The program itself will begin at 6 PM with an introduction from Busboys and Poets Books Director of Operations, Lori Barrientos Sanchez, before we get right into it with Chloe and Christine to hear more about what brought the book to life, the process of its creation, and what it means for there to be a book like this out there for other Black women to find and cherish. There will be time for Q&A with the audience before the end of the program, as well as the opportunity to purchase a copy of LIFE, I SWEAR for Chloe to sign the night of!

A mixture of poignant essays, gorgeous photography, and sophisticated design elements, LIFE I SWEAR: INTIMATE STORIES FROM BLACK WOMEN ON IDENTITY, HEALING, AND SELF-TRUST is a chronicle of transformation and growth by and for modern-day Black women. Some of today’s most influential Black female voices chronicle their private journeys, offering testimonies of living through pain and joy with raw honesty and unapologetic self-love.

In each episode of her podcast, Life, I Swear, emotive storyteller Chloe Dulce Louvouezo explores the nuances of our diverse experiences. In one-on-one interviews and personal prose, the podcast centers on personal stories that offer universal insights into topics relevant to modern women’s lives, from identity and family to trauma and motherhood, told through the lens of Black women. A catalyst for change, this revelatory book builds on the premise of the podcast by diving deeper into themes of mental health, identity and resilience. Life, I Swear is sure to spark lively, thought-provoking, and necessary conversations that encourage Black women to return home to themselves through self-examination and grace.
