Writer and recently retired Sesame Street star Manzano remembers her journey from a thoroughfare in the Bronx to the most beloved street on television. A colorful yet complicated childhood provided both challenges and inspiration as she eventually inhabited the role of Maria, the name by which she is now known to generations of Sesame viewers.
