Politics & Prose at Busboys and Poets, 14th & V, presents Susan Abulhawa as she discusses her new book The Blue Between Sky and Water.
In her second novel, Abulhawa, a human rights activist and the author of Mornings in Jenin, and herself the child of displaced Palestinians, chronicles the ordeal of a Palestinian family uprooted from their ancestral farm. Deposited in a refugee camp in Gaza, the family fights to remain whole as each of its members struggles to adapt, the women by nurturing, the men by resisting. As they face military attacks, separation, and illness, the characters are at last rallied by the clan’s stalwart matriarch, Nazmiyeh.
