A Busboys and Poets in-house series! Rise + Rhyme is a weekly morning storytelling and performance series for children ages 5 and under, stay-at-home parents, and early rising families of all kinds.
Elnathan K. Starnes (aka Groovy Nate) is a children’s performer who blends music, puppet skits, movement, and comedy into one groovy experience! The shows expose participants to various genres of music and encourage them to move, sing, and play creatively. His first children’s CD, “Meet Groovy Nate†combines the interactive nature of his performances and classes with songs about sharing; inside beauty; eating healthy foods, and the joy of reading. Groovy Nate’s Music and Movement classes in the Northern Virginia are drawing families who return over and over again to enjoy the interactivity in every class. Children will sing, play instruments, interact with puppets and move to original and traditional music. Elnathan taught Music Together classes for eight years. He recently completed his Wolf Trap Teaching Artist training.
As Groovy Nate, Elnathan has performed at various venues in the DMV area including: Jammin’ Java, Children’s Inaugural Ball, Holton Arms in Bethesda, Kindercare. Source Theater; Atlas Theater, Arts on the Avenue, The Children’s Inn, National Institute of Health, Arlington Title I Mailbox Books Program; Doodlehopper 4 Kids, Fall for Fairfax KidsFest, Mclean Community Center, DC National Association for the Education of Young Children; Cox Farms, PB and Jack, and Imagination Stage and numerous schools and libraries in the area as well.
$5 admission per child. Additional donations for the performer is much appreciated.
Rise + Rhyme is held every Tuesday morning at 9:30 AM at Busboys and Poets in Shirlington and every Monday morning in Hyattsville.
