Join us for an illuminating discussion on everyday life in Cuba, including how to travel to Cuba today.

Led by an esteemed panel: 

Magda Resik Aguirre, MSc., Director of Communications and Habana Radio at Havana City Historian’s Office. Master of Heritage Management. She is presenter for the Cuban television show Among Books. She regularly contribute to several Cuban magazines and periodicals such as La Jiribilla, Juventud Rebelde (“Rebel Youth”), Cine cubano (“Cuban Cinema”), and La gaceta de Cuba (“The Cuban Gazette”). 

Armando Garcia, was one of the founders of the Antonio Maceo Brigade for trips of Cuban residents in the United States to the island. Today is one of those who directs the operations of Marazul agency,

founded by Francisco Aruca in Washington DC , which has organized trips to Cuba from the United States consistently for the past 36 years.

Bob Guild, was one of the founders of the Venceremos Brigade in the 70s for US travel to Cuba. He is one of the executives of operations of Marazul agency, founded by Francisco Aruca in Washington DC ,which has organized trips to Cuba from the United States consistently for the past 36 years.

Moderated by 

James Counts Early has served in various positions at the Smithsonian since first coming on board in 1972 as a researcher in Brazil and the Caribbean for the African Diaspora Folklife Festival program. He has served as assistant provost for educational and cultural programs, assistant secretary for education and public service, and interim director of the Anacostia Community Museum. James holds a B.A. in Spanish from Morehouse College and completed graduate work (A.B.D.) in Latin American and Caribbean history, with a minor in African and African American history, at Howard University.
