The A.C.T.O.R. Too! (A Continuing Talk on Race) open discussion series is hosted by Busboys and Poets as a community service. The discussion at the Shirlington location, is produced and facilitated by A.C.T.O.R. founder Pamela Pinnock. The discussion provides the opportunity for people to come together and speak openly and honestly about issues of race, class and culture. The intent is that each person walks away from the discussion feeling something: challenged, educated, uncomfortable, enlightened, refreshed, reassured and hopefully inspired and moved to action! Each month there is a new topic for discussion.
This Month's Topic: EQUITY: From Words To Action.
EQUITY! – it has become a new “buzz word” when talking about issues of inclusion. But when policy makers use the term…what does it mean for the rest of us? What happens? What is expected? (And most important…) What is delivered at the intersection of equity and public policy? Join us for a community conversation about equity.
This month’s A.C.T.O.R. discussion focuses on one jurisdiction’s path toward equity in: County Government; Healthcare and Public Education. In Arlington, County, various organizations and institutions are discussing, researching and compiling information about equity (and inequity) throughout the County --while coming to grips with what it means to “do equity” the ‘Arlington Way.’ Come and be part of a community conversation, share your views on what local institutions can and should do to foster a more just and equitable society.
Featuring special guests: Christian Dorsey, Chair, Arlington County Board; Sherrice Kerns, Black Parents of Arlington and Patricia Rodgers, Program Officer, NOVA Health Foundation.
