A Continuing Talk On Race takes place on the last Sunday of every month at Busboys and Poets – Shirlington.

A.C.T.O.R. is a public discussion series. It provides the opportunity for people to come together and speak openly and honestly about issues of race, class and culture. The intent is that each person walks away from the discussion feeling something: challenged, educated, uncomfortable, enlightened, refreshed, reassured, and hopefully inspired and moved to action!

Busboys and Poets Shirlington 4251 Campbell Ave, Arlington, VA 22206.

August 27, 2023 @ 5 PM | AFFIRMATIVE ACTION with Aderson Francois, Anne Fleming Research Professor

The recent Supreme Court decision, making it unlawful for colleges to consider race as a factor for admissions–effectively guts affirmative action, overturning more than 40 years of legal precedent.  Many people are confused about the next steps… we are watching the immediate change in college admissions as well as the impact of the court’s ruling on DEI programs and affirmative action initiatives outside of academia.

This Month’s A.C.T.O.R. discussion will dig deep into the future of affirmative action. The impact of the Court’s decision and what can be done to continue the fight for racial equity in college admissions and beyond.
