Washington National Opera and The Washington Informer present a special preview event at Busboys and Poets Takoma featuring excerpts from Treemonisha and The Crucible, followed by a live Q&A and community reception.
Washington National Opera, in partnership with The Washington Informer, invites you to a special community preview event at Busboys and Poets - Takoma.
Cast members from both productions will be in attendance, including Grammy Award-winner J’Nai Bridges (Elizabeth Proctor, The Crucible), and Viviana Goodwin (Treemonisha in Treemonisha). Enjoy performances of select excerpts, followed by a live Q&A hosted by Kelsey Nicole Nelson. Guests are invited to mix and mingle before and after the program.
This intimate preview offers an early look at two powerful productions before they take the stage at Lisner Auditorium.
RSVP’ed guests will be entered into a live drawing during the event to win one pair of tickets to Treemonisha and one pair of tickets to The Crucible. Winners will be selected at random during the program.
Viviana Goodwin
Cafritz Young Artist, Washington National Opera
Treemonisha in Treemonisha
Soprano Viviana Goodwin, a Tulsa, Oklahoma native, returns to Washington National Opera’s Cafritz Young Artist Program for her second season. She previously trained as an Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera, performing in Porgy & Bess, Carmen, and The Love for Three Oranges, and has appeared in scenes from Don Giovanni, La bohème, and Die tote Stadt.
Last summer, she made her principal role debut as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni with Merola Opera. In addition to performing, Goodwin works in arts marketing and is a dedicated advocate for nonprofit cultural organizations.
J’Nai Bridges
Two-time Grammy Award–winning Mezzo-Soprano
Elizabeth Proctor in The Crucible
J’Nai Bridges is a two-time Grammy Award–winning mezzo-soprano praised by The New York Times for her “plush-voiced” sound and commanding stage presence. She appears on many of the world’s leading opera and concert stages.
This season, she performs the role of Elizabeth Proctor in The Crucible with Washington National Opera. Her recent and upcoming engagements include appearances with the Metropolitan Opera, Seattle Opera, and major orchestras across the country. A leading voice for inclusion in classical music, Bridges has been recognized as a Kennedy Center NEXT50 cultural leader and is a recipient of the Sphinx Medal of Excellence and the Richard Tucker Career Grant.
