Description:

Join Dr Graeme Eddolls, a postdoctoral researcher at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, to learn all about how a collaboration of 1200+ international scientists built scientific instruments to detect gravitational waves. No prior knowledge of physics is required for this event and Dr Eddolls will spend time during and after his presentation answering any and all questions from the audience!”

Bio:

Originally from Scotland, Dr Graeme Eddolls, obtained his PhD in Experimental Gravitational Wave Astrophysics from the University of Glasgow. After a postdoctoral position there, he moved to New Brunswick, Canada to obtain his Private Pilot’s License before moving to Syracuse, NY to continue another research position. He moved to Washington DC in May and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, working on the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) mission to detect gravitational waves in space. He is currently also a member of the ground-based gravitational wave detector LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA Collaboration, which first detected gravitational waves almost exactly 10 years ago. He has over 15 years’ experience as a science communicator and is also a passionate political activist. When not doing scientific research or activism, Graeme enjoys in the music world, both promoting and attending dance and techno events, as well as flying planes and cycling.
