Description:

Although we often to look to the Harlem Renaissance as a time that produced significant creative work that centered Black life, there were quite a number of Black women creatives whose lives, activism and work intersected in Washington, DC.

Sponsored by Humanities DC Foundation, this “Humanitini” will be a forum for cultural exchange that engages panelists, guests, and performers in a transformative discussion about Black women’s roles in social justice movements both past and present. Students from Howard University will perform dramatic readings of anti-lynching plays written by Black women between 1916 and 1926. Panelists, guests, and performers will engage in conversation that centers Black women's creative labor in service of social justice, both now and then.
