Dr. Sheila Brooks shares the fascinating story of Lucile H. Bluford, a Black woman, who used her formidable power base of her newspaper to fight racism and sexism during the 1960’s civil rights movement and the 1970’s women’s rights movement.
Brooks examines Bluford’s life and pioneering advocacy work in her book, “Lucile H. Bluford and the Kansas City Call: Activist Voice for Social Justice.” Buford’s career at The Call spanned 70 years, as she worked as a reporter, editor and eventually publisher and owner. As history repeats itself, much can be learned from both Brooks and Bluford. We invite you to join us for this discussion.
Brooks is an author, Emmy-award winning journalist, entrepreneur, mentor and advocate for minority and women-owned small businesses.
