This Month's Features:

Carol Birch

Audiences respond to Carol Birch's enthusiasm and artistry. At the Baseball Hall of Fame, one man yelled, "That lady knows her s...!" – echoing the kid who said long ago: "She knows that story 'cause she was there." Recipient of the National Storytelling Network’s Circle of Excellence Award for master tellers, Carol understands metaphors rock. In her sure voice, literature becomes appropriately intimate. Her style revitalizes language; her art is an absence of artifice; her stories offer memories worth keeping in this restless world. Learn more at http://www.carolbirchstoryteller.com

Jim May

Jim May’s stories resonate with the rural voices of the Illinois prairie where he was raised. "Visiting" and telling stories was an integral part of daily life, weaving the social fabric of the community. For centuries, telling and listening to stories has been a way to enjoy and to cherish company. A story told well captures, for a moment, the kind of direct, soul to soul communication that we have all experienced at some time in our lives under the 'spell' of a story, either in the listening or the telling. Jim May's stories have taken him across the United States and Europe. He has told at schools, corporations, professional groups, and festivals across the land. Chicagoans know him from appearances on WGN's Roy Leonard Show and from the Studs Terkel radio show on WFMT-FM. He received a 1989 Chicago Emmy award for a WTTW-Channel 11 production of his original story, "A Bell For Shorty." Learn more at http://www.jimmaystoryteller.com
