Description:

Please join Busboys and Poets Books as we welcome authors Andrew Lichtenstein and Alex Lichtenstein to read from their new book Marked, Unmarked, Remembered.

MARKED UNMARKED REMEMBERED chronicles sites of social unrest around the country, documenting the Civil Rights struggle, labor battles, and the injustices Native Americans faced in US history in photos and essays. The photos were taken by Andrew Lichenstein while his brother Alex Lichtenstein, a historian, wrote the introduction.

The essays from leading historians - Doug Egerton, Kevin Boyle, Michael Honey, Julia Reed, Clarence Taylor and more, the book is particularly concerned by our dark moments from our history are memorialized (or in many cases — not at all). Alex Lichtenstein, current editor of the American Historical Review, is a professor of history at Indiana University. The author of many articles on labor, prison, and civil rights history, his previous work on photography is Margaret Bourke-White and the Dawn of Apartheid. Andrew Lichtenstein is a photographer, journalist, and educator from Brooklyn, New York. His first book Never Coming Home was published in 2007: https://www.icp.org/users/andrewlichtenstein.
