Viva Venezuela: A concert for human rights in Venezuela
Please join Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights for a musical celebration honoring Alfredo Romero, the 2017 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award Laureate.
Mr. Romero will speak about his work at Foro Penal Venezolano and perform in concert accompanied by DC-based band La Unica.
Mr. Romero is a human rights lawyer and executive director of the NGO, Foro Penal Venezolano (FPV), an organization that provides pro bono legal assistance to people without economic resources who have been victims of arbitrary detention, due process violations, torture, and cruel and inhuman treatment. Amid the ongoing crisis in Venezuela, Alfredo has been fearless in his struggle to protect human rights and the Rule of Law in Venezuela at great threat to his personal safety. Under his leadership, Foro Penal brings together over 200 pro-bono lawyers and 1,700 volunteers to offer legal assistance to peaceful protesters, many of them students, who have been detained during months of sustained protests against the current government's crackdown on fundamental freedoms.
Tickets are $10. All proceeds will benefit human rights efforts in Venezuela.
