Busboys and Poets and Citizens' Climate Lobby Present: OVERHEATED! Hot Takes on Climate Change, a new partnered series of discussions and exhibitions about climate change, climate activists, and climate voters.
Please join us Thursday, September 26 at 6pm in Takoma to kick off our series with "Youth and Congress: A Call to Action"
What will it take for Congress to take meaningful action on climate? How difficult is the legislative battle ahead? How do activists and politicians alike galvanize climate voters to turn out and make their voices heard? Join this conversation of youth climate leaders and Congressional representatives on climate action around the Global Climate Strike. Congressmen Jamie Raskin (MD-08) and Hank Johnson (GA-04) will be joined on stage with climate leaders Maddie Graham and Jordan McAuliff from Montgomery Blair High School and student Climate Strike organizer Lana Weidgenant from Zero Hour. They will delve into the question that is on everybody's mind--we've mobilized, now how will our leaders translate that into action?
Among the items discussed will be the Energy Innovation Act (HR763), which will drive down carbon emissions by making pollution more expensive. Funds raised from the carbon fee would be returned equally to American households, thus helping our low and middle-income residents adjust to the price changes as we transition to a clean-energy economy.
