For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices, and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.
Tonight's Host: Shelly Bell
Shelly Bell is a certified Virginia educator, performance poet and published author who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. She is the founder of Seven City Art Society, a community art organization based in Alexandria, Virginia focused on fostering human interactions using art and technology. Shelly was a member of the 2011 Busboys and Poets Slam Team. She was nominated in the National Underground Spoken Word Poetry Awards for Community Oriented Poet (2011), Best Poet / Spoken Word Artist - DC, Maryland, and Virginia (2011), and Poet of the Year - Baltimore (2010). She has been featured as a spoken word artist in two stage plays; co-hosted at the Busboys and Poets restaurant; performed at George Washington University, University of MD Eastern Shore, the Black LUV Festival and the National Poetry Awards, as well as a host of other venues around the country.
