Join us at the Smithsonian 2014 Folklife Festival from
4:15-5:30 pm on Sunday, June 29, 2014 in the Teahouse
Commons, adjacent to the Washington Monument.
Feast on words and sounds served up fresh by local Asian
and Africa diaspora artists, including Bomani Armah, G.
Yamazawa, Farafina Kan African Drumming Ensemble, the South
Asian Performing Arts Network, Gowri K., Pages Matam and 2 Deep
the Poet. This program highlights a diverse array of
cultural flavors combining DC?s own folk art, spoken word, with
global musical traditions. Potluck Poetry _ rooted in
African and Asian diaspora cultures, steeped in American
narratives!
Over the past
25 years, spoken word has embedded itself as an integral part of
Folklife in D.C. as evidenced by the many poetry events, which
include an almost nightly occurrence of open mics between
Busboys and Poets? 4 venues.
