Join us for a lively concert featuring this young Venezuelan band
that combines Venezuela?s urban youth music, its Afro-Caribbean
culture, hip hop and progressive lyrics which will keep you on your
feet and wanting to move all night long!
Bituaya is a result of the socio-political and
cultural merges experienced by Venezuela today. Coming straight from
the barrios, Bituaya has played an integral part in the advancement
of urban artistic movements in Caracas through their leadership and
involvement in the cultural community organization
Tiuna El Fuerte. Their music will make you
move, while their lyrics speak of the beliefs, dreams, learnings,
flavors, loves, and pains that are found in every major Latin American
city, and intrinsic to Caracas. Having a nexus with Revolutionary
Latin America, the world-wide Hip-Hop phenomena, and Venezuela's own
Afro-caribbean influences, Bituaya's music breaks boundries. Morphing
out of a group known in Venezuela as Sontizon, Bituaya has already
made head-way with their first recordings, performing with groups
internationally known, such as Calle 13, Los Van Van, La Vida Boheme,
Cuarto Poder and Ozomatli. Bituaya showcased at SXSW 2011 in the US,
performed at the LAMC 2011, and has toured twice in the US, playing
multiple dates in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington
D.C., and Austin. Their first album, "Yerbamora," received
production from multi Grammy nominee, Greg Landau, and Grammy winning
master engineer, John Greenham. Also featured on the album is Mayito
Rivera from the world reknowned Los Van Van.
