Join Busboys and Poets to celebrate the poetic legacy of
hip-hop with a special performance and discussion with DC?s
own Asheru.
This event, to be held at the
14th & V St. Busboys and Poets on April 1st at 6pm as a part
of the Kennedy Center ?One Mic? Festival, will showcase the
connection between hip-hop MC?s and the poets from the American
writing tradition, specifically Langston Hughes and others from
the Harlem Renaissance.
Busboys and Poets as well as the
Kennedy Center strive to create a nurturing environment for
rappers/writers to learn more about and sharpen their craft.
This event will be hosted by Busboys and Poet?s Director
of Poetry Events (D.o.P.E.), Bomani Armah and feature a
performance/presentation/chat with hip-hop artist and educator
Asheru.
This event will feature an online
competition to find 4 rappers/writers (younger than 22) to
perform a song at the event. The winners of the competition
will receive 2 hours of studio time at Urban Intalek Studios and
highlighted on DCplace.com.
